MEDICINE FESTIVAL

A deep and heartfelt thank you to all the amazing human artists, energies, and spirits that have been captured in these photos. Your openness and creativity have made it possible to document the magic of this festival. I also express my sincere appreciation for allowing me to express the wonder of babyPRO through these images.

Guardian & Two Child

I saw a beautiful young woman gently holding the hands of two young children, one on each side, as they walked together in a playful, joyful manner. The way she cared for them caught my attention immediately. I approached her to take a photo of the three of them and told her how deeply moved I was by what she was doing for the kids. It was a moment that melted my heart, a true testament to the power of love and care in the simplest of actions.

Peace Lotus

I captured a beautiful moment one evening involving two young children—a little girl and a younger boy. The girl, clearly caring and protective, guided the boy to the Peace Lotus, where they sat together and played. Later, I was approached by a man who seemed to be the father of one of the children. He told me how the girl had been looking after the boy all day, guiding him around the festival. The way she brought him to the Peace Lotus was a particularly touching moment for him. It was a simple, pure display of love and friendship between the children, a reminder of the beauty in their innocent connections.

Goddess Frye

During the first night of the festival, I was capturing footage of Goddess Frye with my drone, Miss Mavic. I had taken out a light and asked someone to help me with it for the shoot. Later that night, I realized I had lost the light. I searched the area but eventually gave up. The next day, when I returned to Goddess Frye to create more content, I discovered something incredible—Mr. Light, the light I had lost, was sitting right in the center of the statue's palms, perfectly positioned as if it belonged there. It was like finding the very heart of the festival, the center of the center. Such a beautiful and surprising moment, as if the Goddess herself had kept it safe for me.

Mother & Child

I first met the mother when I noticed her drawing on paper. Captivated by her focus and creativity, I decided to capture a time-lapse of her work. That’s how our paths initially crossed. Later on, while I was visiting the children's playground, she approached me with a warm smile, saying, "Hey, do you remember me? I was the one making the drawing—you took a time-lapse of me." We reconnected, and in that moment, I decided to take a photo of her and her son. I then interviewed the boy, asking him, "What is peace?" He said he didn’t know. So I asked, "Do you love your mom?" He replied, "Yes." I told him, "That is peace." This simple exchange beautifully encapsulates the bond between mother and child, illustrating how love and connection are at the heart of peace.

Mr Moon

Mr. Moon is my imaginary friend, and whenever he’s full, I go out and dance with him, creating art together. This particular photo is one of those creations. It captures the Goddess Frye with her hands on either side, and nestled between her index and middle fingers is where Mr. Moon lies, full and bright that night. Above Mr. Moon, a spider web stretches between her fingers, woven by Mr. Spider, another of my imaginary friends, who also contributed to this piece of art. It felt as if Goddess Frye herself called me to that exact spot, guiding me to capture this perfect moment where all these elements came together. She played a part in the creation of this artwork, just as much as Mr. Moon and Mr. Spider did

The Priestness

In the space where Priestess Iona sits, surrounded by two wolves, I had a profound experience dancing with four priestesses. The artist who created this piece played a key role in connecting me to the festival—she recommended a friend, who then invited me. It’s amazing how a chain of connections led me here, allowing me to capture the essence of this place and the story behind it.

Couple

I noticed a couple lying playfully on the grass next to the Goddess Frye. The woman in the couple instantly reminded me of the allure of my ex-girlfriend, a feeling that caught me by surprise. There was something captivating about how they were simply expressing love together, which inspired me to capture the moment. It was a poignant reminder of past emotions, brought to life in the beauty of the present.

Talia

Talia is the name I give to the energy of attraction towards someone special. At the festival, I met someone who perfectly embodied this energy, and I felt an immediate connection. I took photos of her, and later that evening, we met again. She applied glitter on me, and it was the closest I had ever been to any Talia in all these years. After she applied the glitter, I told her she was Talia—the first time I had ever shared this with anyone. I also explained to her about Alita. In my journey, Alita represents the one—among all the Talias, Alita is the person who is meant to be with me, the one who truly captures my heart beyond just attraction. As we were about to part, she said to me, "Alita will come."

Kundulini

I captured a powerful moment where over 200 people gathered in the Shala tent, their arms raised high during a morning Kundalini Yoga session. The energy was calm and focused, a stark contrast to the wild, chaotic dance sessions that fill the same space at night. This image reflects the duality within us all—the need for both calm and chaos, stillness and movement. It’s a reminder that just as the Shala transforms from a place of peace to one of intensity, we too embody different energies at different times, and finding harmony between them is key.

The Children

During my interview with a group of children, one girl mentioned face painting, and another talked about playing with friends. When I asked what peace meant to them, they both said it was dancing. "I’d like to see what peace looks like," I told them. Both girls immediately started dancing, showing me their idea of peace. Afterward, I asked if they wanted to have fun, and they eagerly said yes. That’s when I captured the photo, a moment full of pure joy and simplicity.

Peace Flame

The Peace Flame has been kept burning since the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, Japan. One man chose to preserve this flame as a symbol of remembrance and a commitment to peace. Now, in this tent, people come to sit with the flame and feel peace, connecting with its profound history and meaning.

Ubuntu

The Ubuntu tent was one of the first places I explored, and I was immediately invited to document their events. One of the most intense moments I experienced there was capturing Muti, the charismatic leader, as he told the story of Ubuntu Village. His storytelling was dynamic and spontaneous, full of raw energy. It wasn’t just a presentation—it was an electrifying experience, one of the craziest moments I captured at the festival.

23 Flags

I captured a scene with Miss Mavic showing 23 flags arranged in a circle around a central tipi, with a circular mandala nearby. Circles symbolize unity and completeness, while the number 23 is often linked to mystery and synchronicity. The combination of these elements—23 flags in a circle—creates a sense of interconnectedness and balance, reflecting a unique harmony at the festival.

Movement

I captured a photo of a man skillfully playing with a crystal ball, moving it effortlessly with his palms in a way that made it appear almost motionless, yet it was clearly in motion. It was mesmerizing to watch, almost like the ball was floating. When I asked him what he calls himself, he simply said, "Movement." His artistry was a perfect embodiment of that name, as he created the illusion of fluidity and stillness all at once.

Dancers

I captured two women in beautiful dresses, dancing freely and flowing with the wind. Their movements were graceful, embodying the spirit of the moment. As they danced, I was also flowing with the wind, capturing their energy and connection. And here’s a subtle detail: one of them is Talia.

Mandala

In these two photos, I captured different mandalas, each symmetrical and circular, with the help of two different people. Mandalas are pleasing to the eye because their symmetry and balance naturally draw the mind into a sense of order and harmony. Their circular form represents unity and completeness, which is why they are often used in meditation to promote focus and inner peace.

The Shala

In the Shala Tent, a mesmerizing light installation features a symmetrical flower design that comes to life at night. The lights move from the center towards the edges, making the flower appear as if it’s pulsating and growing. The energy here is electric, with humans dancing under the shifting lights until 3 a.m., completely immersed in the rhythm and atmosphere. The Shala Tent becomes a living, breathing space where movement and light merge, creating a dynamic experience that lasts deep into the night.

Mr S

In this photo, we see Mr. S, Satish Kumar, a figure my friend had spoken highly of before the festival. Listening to him brought to mind Mr. K, Jiddu Krishnamurti, another thinker who has deeply influenced me. During one panel, there was something Mr. S repeated four times: “Marry a gardener.”

The Watcher

In the Sacred Glade, wisdom carriers gather to exchange knowledge and insights. The Watcher observes in silence, without judgment or words, simply taking in everything that unfolds. It’s amazing to think about what the Watcher might have learned from quietly witnessing these significant exchanges.

Perfect Web

Are we any different from a spider? We marvel at a spider’s web, amazed by its intricate design and the spider’s skill. But here, the web is created by a human, and it’s just as intricate and delicate. Shouldn’t we be just as amazed by our own ability to create such beauty? Just as we admire Mr Spider, we should also marvel at the human hand that crafts this perfect web.

Light Dancers

Light in their movements, light in their steps & light in their attire. One of the dancers acknowledged babyPRO and encouraged me to keep bringing light to the world.
